With our maintenance tips, you can keep your waterbed in perfect condition for years, and you will never have to replace the water completely.

  1. Ventilate your mattress every day so that the moisture can escape.
  2. Use a moisture-regulating and washable cover that absorbs perspiration.
  3. Clean this cover at least twice a year.
  4. It is best to clean the mattress twice a year with a special vinyl cleaner.
  5. Vent the waterbed from time to time. You will hear when it is needed.
  6. Add a bottle of waterbed conditioner to the water every six months. This prevents algae growth and odor formation.
  7. Always use the same brand of conditioner. Some products are incompatible and can give the water a bad smell when combined.
  8. Check the water level every year. Through evaporation you may need to top it up. The top of the mattress is normally just a little lower than the foam rails.

REPAIRING A SMALL LEAK

If your waterbed does have a leak, you can easily repair it yourself. All you need is the repair kit you got with your waterbed. Don't worry, the leak is normally at the top and very little water will escape.

  1. Pull out the plug and remove the cover of the mattress.
  2. Take the repair kit by the hand: a piece of vinyl and special glue. Never use other adhesives as these will damage the vinyl.
  3. Dab the leaked water between the safety lining and the mattress.
  4. Find the leak by pressing the mattress at the side. Don't let the waterbed drain, then the leak will be much more difficult to find.
  5. Once you have found the leak (usually no bigger than a pinprick), let air into the mattress by opening the filler cap.
  6. Dab the spot dry once again.
  7. Cut a circle out of the vinyl, slightly larger than the leak.
  8. Put a drop of glue on the circle and stick it on the leak.
  9. Leave to dry for about 5 minutes.
  10. Bleed the mattress again.
