HOW DO I DECORATE MY BEDROOM?

You can decorate your bedroom according to your favourite materials, budget, style, etc. But when you're thinking about bedroom decoration do you really take your sleep quality sufficiently into account?

From color theory over feng shui to common sense and understanding of space... you can apply different theories. The walls, the furniture (and their placement), the quality of the bed linen, etc. all play a role in your sleep, that's for sure.

LOCATION OF THE ROOM

First of all, it is best to take into account the location of the room in the house and the incidence of light. Depending on the chosen colour for your walls and furniture, your bedroom may seem too cramped or too cold. If it is oriented north, decorate it with warm colours. If your bedroom is south-facing, you can keep everything quite light.

BEDROOM DECORATION DESIGN TIPS

An ideal bedroom is an oasis of tranquility. So remember that, even when choosing your curtains. A light, thin fabric can be nice, but does it darken enough? Your biological clock reacts to darkness. At nightfall, your brain produces melatonin to make your body feel sleepy. I'd rather count sheep in the dark.

Furthermore, there are a lot of things that you should keep out of your bedroom on purpose because they prevent you from resting completely or create too many distractions. We don't only think of clutter and dirty laundry, but also a TV and work stuff. It's a very simple psychological trick: nothing in the bedroom that has nothing to do with sleeping (or intimacy)!

BEDROOM COLOURS AFFECT YOUR MOOD

  • Shades of blue bring serenity to the room.
  • Natural colours such as terracotta and sand reflect purity and honesty. You complete the picture with a wooden bed and ecological, natural bed linen such as cotton, damask or silk.
  • Striking colours such as bright red, orange and yellow generate energy and creativity. In principle, these shades are more suitable for people who fall asleep easily but have difficulty getting up.
  • Warm red, purple and brown create intimacy and a sense of security.
  • Green shades stand for hope and stability. They also promote concentration and are therefore more suitable for a study.
  • Black gives the room a mysterious impression but makes the space smaller. It is recommended to use this only as an accent colour in bedroom decoration. It is best not to combine black with bright red in the bedroom because that creates a tense atmosphere.
