THE FENG SHUI PHILOSOPHY
Feng shui, what does that mean? Feng shui is a more than 3,000 year old Chinese philosophy. It literally means wind (feng) and water (shui). According to this philosophy, our living environment can stimulate our life force or spiritual energy.
A bedroom decorated according to feng shui beckons to rest and radiates positive energy. Everything revolves around harmony and balance between yin (femininity, earth, humidity) and yang (masculinity, heaven, drought). From the placement of the furniture to the colours and fragrances ...
PLACE YOUR FURNITURE IN A FENG SHUI WAY
- Make sure your bed is easily accessible from both sides.
- Put a bedside table on each side, with the same light on it. Symmetry gives rest.
- Don't place your bed in the same line as the bedroom door, but make sure you have a view of the door and the whole room from the bed. This is called the 'power position'.
- Choose a bed in sturdy materials and use natural bed linen such as cotton, silk or damask. Always make your bed in the morning as well.
- Avoid (images of) water. That generates too much emotional energy.
- Don't put anything under your bed and don't leave any rubbish lying around.
- Keep appliances such as a TV, computer, fitness equipment, office equipment, ... out of the bedroom. They are distracting, reminiscent of exertion and stress.
- Do not place plants in your bedroom, unless you have a very large room and put them as far away from your bed as possible.
THINK OF ALL THE SENSES
Consider the air quality and the smells in your room. Feng shui or not, it is definitely better for your health to ventilate your room regularly. It becomes totally feng shui if you purify the air with essential oils (no perfumes or synthetic fragrances).
The ideal colors for a feng shui bedroom? Those are all earthy colors and colors that represent skin tones, all over the world. So: porcelain white, yellowish, rosy, chocolate shades, etc.
Finally, light is also essential. In the case of feng shui one recommends subtle and warm light, from several light sources. Candles also help.
